As a kid, eggs were always one of my favorite ingredients and foods. 🤩 I have always heard of Japan’s popular egg sandwiches and been curious about it. After trying to make it myself, I was impressed with how delicious this easy recipe is!
My New Go-to Recipe
After doing some research and comparing recipes with what I had in my kitchen, I decided to go with Just One Cookbook’s Japanese Egg Sandwich (Tamago Sando) たまごサンド.
Not only is the recipe detailed and easy to follow, the ingredients were readily available in my pantry.
The only ingredients I used were:
- Soft Bread (I used Sara Lee Artesano bakery bread since I didn’t have Shokupan)
I buttered the bread on both sides (I had to cut it like this instead of spreading because I only had cooking butter and was too impatient to wait for it to soften). I boiled eggs. Mashed the eggs, seasoned it with sugar, salt, and pepper, and added mayo. That was it!
Since I first tried it, I’ve found myself making it on multiple occasions when I’m craving something light and creamy. It’s a sweet and savory dish that is easy to make, affordable, and satisfying! (I know, I sound like an ad, but I am just that excited about this recipe.)
A Fun Dish to Experiment with
Even better, there’s room to experiment too! I recommend adding a little bit of mustard (make sure to decrease the salt amount when you do) and sriracha for an additional kick once you have tried the original recipe.
Try it for yourself!
I highly recommend looking at Just One Cookbook’s detailed recipe. Let me know if you end up trying this recipe for yourself! If you have a go-to dish you like, feel free to comment food recommendations for me to try next! 😊
